2027: APC Chairman Yilwatda Breaks Silence on Being Tinubu’s Running Mate

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has denied reports linking him to the position of running mate to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He described the claim as false and said it did not originate from within the ruling party.
Yilwatda made this known during a television interview while responding to growing political discussions about the 2027 race.
According to him, there is no plan within the APC to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima or to begin talks about a new vice-presidential candidate. He said such reports are unnecessary and misleading.
“Not true. Nobody is discussing anything about the issue of the vice president,” he said.
The APC chairman explained that the party has not reached the stage where discussions about a running mate can even begin.
He noted that the process only starts after the party conducts its presidential primary election.
“The issue of candidature comes after the primary election. It is after that the party and the candidate will sit down to select and nominate a running mate,” Yilwatda explained.
He added that the rumours are being driven by political opponents who are attempting to create confusion within the ruling party.
According to him, the APC leadership remains focused on governance and party unity rather than early election politics.
“I laugh when I hear it. There is nothing like that at all. Nothing has been discussed,” he said.
Yilwatda also warned party members to stay away from speculative comments about sensitive political matters. He stressed that premature debates about the vice presidency could harm internal party stability and distract from national responsibilities.
