US Confirms Military Troops Sent to Nigeria After Recent Attacks

The United States Africa Command has confirmed the deployment of a small team of American troops to Nigeria.
The confirmation marks the first official acknowledgement of the presence of US forces in the West African country since airstrikes carried out on Christmas Day on the orders of President Donald Trump.
Trump had also warned at the time that further military action could follow.
There have additionally been reports that the United States has been carrying out surveillance flights over Nigeria.
Speaking to reporters, the head of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, said the troops were deployed after an agreement was reached between both countries.
“That has led to increased collaboration between our nations to include a small US team that brings some unique capabilities from the United States,” Anderson said.
He did not, however, disclose details about the team’s mission or scope of operations.
