Wike Doesn’t Matter in Rivers Crisis — APC Chairman Yilwatda Opens Up

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed claims that former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike is central to the political crisis rocking the state.
Yilwatda said the dispute currently unfolding in Rivers State has nothing to do with Wike and should not be linked to the APC leadership at the national level.
He explained that the matter is strictly an internal issue involving lawmakers of the party in the state.
Speaking during a television interview on Tuesday, the APC chairman made it clear that the disagreement between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara does not fall under his authority as party leader.
“When it comes to the issue between Wike and Fubara, it’s not within my purview as the national chairman of APC. Wike is in PDP, Fubara is in APC,” he said.
He stressed that the impeachment moves being discussed in Rivers State concern only members of the APC in the House of Assembly. According to him, the party is handling the situation through its established internal structures.
“The issue of impeachment is not about Wike now; it concerns APC House of Assembly members. That is something I can discuss. It’s an internal matter, and we have mechanisms within APC to resolve such issues,” he added.
Yilwatda noted that political disagreements should be treated with caution and maturity. He warned against turning internal party matters into public controversies.
“We don’t put these discussions in the public. Issues can be resolved through in-house activities that require maturity to address. Wike is not a problem in APC,” he said.
The APC chairman maintained that the party remains focused on stability and unity in Rivers State. He said leadership disputes should be settled quietly to avoid further tension and confusion among residents.
Recall, POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported rising tension in the Rivers State House of Assembly following moves by some lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The situation had sparked speculation about the involvement of external political actors, including Wike.
