Electoral Act: Shehu Sani asks Nigerians to direct anger at their senators

Shehu Sani, former senator representing Kaduna central, has urged Nigerians to hold their representatives accountable over the rejection of real-time electronic transmission of election results by lawmakers.

In a post on X on Thursday, Sani said citizens should direct their reactions to the senators representing their constituencies rather than focusing on national political figures.

“The lawmakers have rejected the realtime electronic transmission of results. If you like what they did or you don’t like what they did, you should be courageous enough to go to the social media handle of the lawmaker representing your constituency and express your happiness or bitterness,” he said.

Sani advised Nigerians not to concentrate criticism on the president or Senate leadership over the decision.

“Don’t focus on the President or Akpabio who is just representing a district in Akwa Ibom,” he added.

He urged citizens to directly engage their senators on the issue.

“Be brave enough to mention your Senator by name on your handle. Everyone is an adult there,” the former senator added.

There have been outrage on social media over the Nigerian Senate refusal to adopt the proposed electoral reforms.
