BREAKING: INEC Registers Two New Political Parties Ahead of 2027

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially registered two new political parties.

This development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Commission’s National Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), during the first quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

The two newly minted organizations, the Democratic Leadership Alliance and the National Democratic Congress, bring the total number of recognized political parties in Nigeria to 21.

Speaking to a gathering of party chairmen and secretaries, Prof. Amupitan explained that the registrations were handled under different circumstances.

According to the INEC boss, the Democratic Leadership Alliance successfully scaled the Commission’s rigorous vetting process by meeting all the statutory requirements and conditions stipulated for the formation of a political party.

On the other hand, the registration of the National Democratic Congress was carried out specifically to comply with a legal directive from the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja.

“While the Democratic Leadership Alliance satisfied the administrative and constitutional benchmarks set by the Commission, the National Democratic Congress is being brought on board in strict obedience to a judicial pronouncement,” Amupitan clarified.

Furthermore, the Chairman assured the representatives of the new parties that their formal certificates of registration would be issued in a brief ceremony shortly.
