JUST IN: Police reacts to attack on Edo ADC secretariat by suspected political thugs

The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the attack on the building housing the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Edo State.
The Edo State Police Command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem described the incident as malicious damage to the property of the ADC in the state.
Recall that some suspected political thugs had invaded the party’s secretariat in Benin City, destroying some campaign banners, vehicle and shattering glass windows of the building.
A video circulating online, also showed that the thugs had attempted to set the said building on fire by dousing it with fuel but the fire was averted following the intervention of some passers-by.
Reacting to the incident, the police said they received a distress call about the incident that occurred at about 2055hrs on Wednesday.
Ikoedem said, “Following a distress call received from the Control Room, Benin, reporting that suspected hoodlums had invaded the party’s premises and were destroying properties.
“Police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy,” the Edo State police spokesperson said.
He also noted that the preliminary assessment of the ADC secretariat in Edo State revealed malicious damage to flags and two shattered windows in the premises.
He said that security has since been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for such a heinous act.
“The command appreciates the prompt call that was made to the Control room which saved the day, encourages everyone in distress to do the same through its dedicated lines and warns miscreants against such heinous act as anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
