Coup: “Nigerian Air Force committed to our nation’s democracy” – Chief of Air Staff

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke has reaffirmed the committment of the Nigerian Air Force to the nation’s democratic order.

Aneke, while reacting to the ongoing investigation of an attempted coup by some officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, warned personnel against actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic principles.

Speaking at the meeting with Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding and Unit Commanders in Abuja said NAF remains loyal to the democratically elected government.

Also noting that the force will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or unlawful conduct from its personnel, the CAS urged commanders to ensure adherence to operational excellence with unity, discipline, and strategic clarity.

“Together, we will continue to build a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower effects in synergy with surface forces,” Aneke said.

In addition, Aneke stated that while the global and regional security climate is volatile, a stable situation in the Sahel will help Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.

He further assured that there would be improved security to suppress the threats and challenges of insurgency, banditry, and emerging extremists.

Aneke also urged the senior officers to ensure they continue to uphold absolute professionalism and maintain political neutrality, especially as Nigeria moves towards an election season.
