Jigawa PDP Suspends Party Chairman Over Alleged Misconduct

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State has deepened following the suspension of the chairman of its Birnin Kudu Local Government chapter, Alhaji Lukman Wurno, over alleged misconduct.
The party leadership in the area confirmed that Wurno has been relieved of his duties pending further investigations into the allegations brought against him.
This decision was communicated through a statement issued by the Local Government Secretary, Alhaji Lawan Ahmed. The statement said the action became necessary after complaints of misconduct were formally presented against the chairman.
According to the party, Wurno has been directed to immediately stop presenting himself as the chairman of the party in Birnin Kudu Local Government.
To ensure continuity of leadership, the chapter appointed Alhaji Ibrahim Maigida Halimbe as Acting Chairman with immediate effect. He will oversee party affairs until further directives are issued by higher authorities of the party.
The party explained that the suspension was carried out in line with its constitution and internal disciplinary guidelines. It noted that the move was aimed at protecting unity, restoring discipline, and maintaining order within the local chapter.
Party officials said the leadership remains committed to transparency and accountability at all levels. They added that disciplinary actions would continue to be taken against any official found to have acted contrary to party rules.
Members of the party in Birnin Kudu have been urged to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions. The leadership also called for continued support for the party’s activities in the area.
However, the PDP leadership in Jigawa State assured members that steps are being taken to strengthen the party structure ahead of the 2027 general election. It said the internal issues would be resolved through due process.
