Tinubu to Visit South-South, South-East in May — Presidency Reveals

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu will visit the South-South and South-East regions on May 12, 2026.

Minister of Works Dave Umahi disclosed this on Monday after inspecting the Abia section of the Aba–Port Harcourt Motorway and the Eleme axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State.

He said the visit is intended to inaugurate projects expected to be completed by April.

Umahi added that the Federal Government has stepped up work on major highway projects across the South-South, with several key routes scheduled for commissioning by the President during his May tour of the regions.

Among the projects is the 43-kilometre dualisation of the Aba–Port Harcourt Highway, a vital economic route linking Abia and Rivers states, which officials say will be substantially completed by April.

The former Ebonyi State governor noted that the project, handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is about 90% complete.

He stressed that the road project had been stalled for years due to funding challenges before the current administration intervened.

According to him, the contractor has now finished over 90% of the Aba-bound carriageway after being directed to focus resources on one side to speed up delivery, assuring that outstanding payments worth billions of naira would be settled within weeks.

“They remain responsible for any section of the road for twelve months after completion. If it fails, it is their responsibility to fix it.

“But so far, I am satisfied with their work, and I want them to complete it by April so we can present it for Mr President to commission on May 12 when he visits the South-East and South-South,” he said.
