“All Nigerians are winners today” – Senate Leader rejoices as Tinubu assents to Electoral Act amendment

Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Majority Leader, has described the signing of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law as a historic moment.

Bamidele made the comment on Wednesday after joining the leadership of the 10th National Assembly to witness the assent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

His words: “It was a moment of history this afternoon as I joined the leadership of National Assembly to witness the signing into law, the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2026, by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

“I rejoice with Mr President, the entire 10th National Assembly, various stakeholders and fellow Nigerians from all walks of life for making inputs at various stages of legislating on this improved legal framework aimed at ensuring more transparent conduct of elections in our dear country.

“It is my firm belief that regardless of the brainstorming and concerns that trailed the making of this newly signed law in the last few days; all Nigerians are the winners today.

“While we must put the past behind us, we should also look at the greater picture ahead of this great nation, with a determination to contribute our quotas in bequeathing a better Nigeria to the unborn generations. God bless Nigeria.”

Tinubu signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law on Wednesday in the presence of principal officers of the National Assembly.

Leaders of the National Assembly have said the amendment introduces reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
