Lagos APC Chair Urges Nigerians to Embrace Sacrifice, Unity During Lent, Ramadan

The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has called on Nigerians to use the Christian season of Lent and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as opportunities for reflection, sacrifice, and unity.
In a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, Ojelabi described the sacred periods as times to deepen spiritual devotion and renew commitment to service.
“These sacred periods remind us of the importance of sacrifice, devotion, and service to humanity, values that unite us all, regardless of faith,” he said.
Ojelabi wished Christians a meaningful Lenten season, urging them to strengthen their connection to God as they prepare to celebrate Easter.
He cited Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
He also extended greetings to Muslims, praying that their fasting and prayers during Ramadan be accepted. He referenced the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183: “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”
Pastor Ojelabi encouraged followers of both religions to use the holy seasons to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
“Together, we can continue to build a stronger and more inclusive community, guided by the principles of love, tolerance, and mutual respect,” he said, noting that both Lent and Ramadan emphasise values that bring Nigerians together despite religious differences.
