“Nobody Gave Me Money” — Taraba Gov Kefas Breaks Silence on APC Defection

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has dismissed claims that money influenced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.
The governor spoke in Abuja after a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
He said his move to the All Progressives Congress was based on personal conviction and the interest of Taraba State, not financial rewards.
Reacting directly to the allegation, Kefas stated, “Nobody gave me money to defect to the APC.” He stressed that his decision was carefully considered and aimed at positioning the state for better cooperation with the Federal Government.
On politics, the governor expressed confidence in delivering Taraba State for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. He said ongoing projects and policies at the grassroots have strengthened public trust in his administration.
Kefas said his meeting with the president focused on security, agriculture and welfare issues affecting residents of the state.
He described the discussion as productive and said it would improve collaboration between Taraba and the Federal Government.
The governor further urged residents to embrace peace and unity, noting the overlap of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim Ramadan period. He said the moment calls for prayers and collective commitment to national development.
Recall, Kefas officially left the PDP for the APC between late 2025 and early 2026.
Several lawmakers, council chairmen and party officials have since followed him into the APC.
This has altered the political balance in the state and weakened the long-standing dominance of the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
