JUST IN: ADC chieftain raises alarm over plans to arrest Amaechi

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers state, Sunday Ohakwu, has alleged that there is a plot to arrest Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, a leading presidential aspirant of the party.
Ohakwu said the move is aimed at undermining the ADC’s preparedness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
His words: “We have discovered that the plots are to arrest the top opposition political figure. We strongly have it in our discovery that the plots is being coordinated by a top security official in the APC government, in the Presidency and could happen anytime soon, barring any last minute change of plans.
“In the past weeks, several meetings have been held, with a small committee formed to find and provide water proof grounds and reasons for anti-graft agencies like the ICPC or EFCC or even the DSS to arrest, detain and then prosecute the ADC presidential hopeful using the courts.
“As part of their aggressive efforts to find reasons and evidence to nail him for prosecution in the courts, various teams are currently looking at State records, accounts and properties in Rivers State, Lagos State and Abuja, looking for a full-proof, watertight case that will lead to the arrest and trial of Amaechi,” he said.
Ohakwu said Amaechi’s tenure as minister of transportation under the Buhari administration had also been scrutinised.
Ohakwu added that any attempt to intimidate Amaechi or distract the ADC from the presidential race would fail.
