JUST IN: Wike declares Friday work free, restrict movement in Abuja over FCT area council polls


Barr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared Friday a work-free day ahead of the February 21 area council elections.
The minister also announced a restriction of movement across the FCT from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Saturday.
The directive by the minister was contained in a statement issued on February 19 by his media aide, Lere Olayinka.
“Similarly, the President has approved the restriction of movement within the FCT from 8pm of Friday, February 20 to 6pm of Saturday, February 21, 2026. Consequently, all security agencies are directed to ensure strict compliance with this directive,” Olayink stated.
The area council elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday across the six councils of the FCT.
