2027: Peter Obi Supporters Launch ‘Village Boys Movement’ to Rival Tinubu’s ‘City Boy

Supporters of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, have launched a new political movement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group, known as the Village Boys Movement, was unveiled in Abuja as a grassroots mobilisation platform aimed at challenging the influence of the City Boys Movement, which is associated with President Bola Tinubu and promoted by his son, Seyi Tinubu.

Leaders of the new movement said it was created to organise supporters at the community level and push a political message focused on accountability and ethical leadership. The initiative is expected to operate mainly in rural areas and local communities across the country.

Speaking at the launch event, the convener, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, introduced himself as the “Village Headmaster” of the movement. He described the group as one built on discipline and responsibility.

According to him, the movement “represents a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends”.

Ezeoke explained that the platform was not designed to attack urban populations or city dwellers. He stressed that its message was symbolic rather than geographical.

He said the idea behind the movement was to draw attention to values such as honesty, productivity, and transparent leadership. In his words, it is meant to serve as a moral alternative in Nigeria’s political space.

He added, “The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability,” while urging young Nigerians to join the campaign for political reform.

In a related development, POLITICS NIGERIA had earlier reported the launch of the City Boys Movement as part of efforts to rally youth support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
