“If there’s election tomorrow, I’ll run under Labour Party” – Alex Otti

Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State has dispelled claims that he is set to dump the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Otti while speaking to some journalists in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital city said he is still a member of the Labour Party.
He said, “I am in the Labour Party, and there is no election happening tomorrow. But if an election were to happen tomorrow, I would still run on the Labour Party platform.
“But then nobody knows tomorrow,” the governor stated.
Recall that the governor has been under pressure from APC stalwarts in the state, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to join the ruling party.
During a particular rally last year, Kalu said that he is focused on ensuring that Abia State becomes an APC state.
He also told his supporters that Otti has been able to deliver on key projects and various aspects of development, especially infrastructure, due to support from President Bola Tinubu, the party’s leader.
According to Kalu, the people of Abia owe the president the honour of ensuring that the state is secured for the APC.
Also recently, various members of the APC including Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari suggested that the party has perfected plans for Otti’s defection.
With APC having secured a total of 30 state governors out of the 36 states across the country, Ahmad in a post on X said, “Abia loading…31/36.”
