FCT Polls: Abuja Youths Shun Council Election to Play Football [VIDEO]

Large numbers of young residents across the Federal Capital Territory chose the football pitch over the polling unit during Saturday’s Area Council elections.
Despite the significance of the local government polls, many youths appeared indifferent to the exercise, opting instead for recreational activities.
In various neighborhoods, the streets were transformed into makeshift pitches as young men engaged in intense soccer matches while the electoral process was underway nearby.
POLITICS NIGERIA observed this trend in several major hubs. Specifically, youths in Lugbe, Gwarinpa, and Gwagwalada were seen playing football in open spaces.
Similar scenes were recorded in Kuje and along the busy Airport Road, where the usual electoral buzz was replaced by the cheers of spectators watching local games.
This defiance occurred despite the official directive from the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who had earlier announced a total restriction of movement to ensure a hitch-free voting process.
The curfew was intended to keep residents within their immediate voting areas and limit vehicular traffic across the Area Councils.
However, the enforcement of this restriction appeared lax in some sectors. Information reaching Politics Nigeria has it that some taxi drivers and private motorists completely defied the curfew.
