“I Will be the Next Governor for Ogun State” – Obasanjo’s Daughter Declares

Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has openly declared her ambition to become the next governor of Ogun State in the 2027 election.

She made the announcement during an interview on 103.7FM Eagle7 Sports with Nigerian football icon Segun Odegbami.

Iyabo Obasanjo said she has returned fully to partisan politics after many years away from the political scene.

She confirmed that she has now joined the ruling All Progressives Congress and completed her registration with the party.

Speaking on her political future, she ruled out any plan to contest for the Senate again.
She insisted that her focus is strictly on the governorship race.

“The only thing I’ll come back to do is the governorship. And we have started that journey. We are going to see it through. That’s the journey I’m on, and we are very serious about it. I mean, we are very dedicated to it.”

Iyabo Obasanjo previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health between 2003 and 2007.
She later represented Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011.

Beyond politics, she is known for her humanitarian work through the Iyaniwura Foundation.

The foundation has supported vulnerable communities across different parts of Ogun State through health and social intervention programs.

Nevertheless, her declaration has begun to attract endorsements from traditional institutions.
