Insecurity: Gunmen Kill Community Chief, Kidnap Two Daughters in Fresh Edo Attack

A senior palace chief in Iduah Kingdom, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Chief Jimah Ogboi, has been shot dead while his two daughters were abducted during a violent attack on Monday night.

According to reports, the gunmen opened fire on the chief and attacked his wife with a machete and other weapons, leaving her seriously injured.

One of his sons, Lucky Ogboi, said he had stepped out to buy an item when the attack occurred. He returned to find his father dead and his mother in critical condition.

A source within the community revealed that elders convened an emergency meeting to strategise the rescue of the abducted daughters and to address the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The traditional ruler of Iduah Kingdom, Alhaji Amedu Momoh, appealed to the Edo State government and security agencies for immediate assistance and enhanced security in the area. He said, “About four assailants attacked the home of one of our chiefs.

They shot him and took two of his daughters. The Nigerian Police and other security agencies have been on the scene since the incident.

We urgently need government support to address these security challenges. While our community had enjoyed relative calm, it seems the violence is resurfacing.”

Alhaji Momoh also expressed concern over the increasing attacks on farmlands by suspected herdsmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Edo State, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been launched. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, along with senior officers, is in Ekpoma, Edo Central, to implement measures aimed at preventing similar attacks.
