Insecurity: Terrorists Attack Mosque in Kebbi, Kill Five Worshippers

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have attacked a mosque in Kebbi State, killing five worshippers and injuring three others in what authorities described as a reprisal following a failed ambush on a Nigerian Army convoy.
The assailants reportedly stormed the Dadinkowa community mosque in Maiyama Local Government Area on Wednesday evening and opened fire on congregants during prayers.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the attack was carried out in retaliation for an earlier military operation against the group.
“The attack was a reprisal by suspected Lakurawa terrorist elements following a failed ambush on troops of the Nigerian Army attached to the 8 Division,” Usman said.
He explained that the sequence of events began on February 24, when the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. Bemgha Koughna, came under attack while travelling to visit frontline troops in the state.
According to him, the GOC’s convoy was ambushed near Mayama Hill as it navigated a forested area, but troops responded with superior firepower, killing five of the attackers and foiling the ambush.
Usman added that five worshippers died from gunshot wounds sustained in the mosque attack, while three others who suffered varying degrees of injuries were evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
