Ooni of Ife Congratulates New IGP Tunji Disu, Urges Strategic Approach to Security

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has congratulated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, urging him to adopt a renewed and strategic approach to tackling insecurity across Nigeria.

The congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement by Mr Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

Describing Disu’s appointment as timely, Ogunwusi noted that the nation is currently grappling with complex security challenges.

He expressed confidence in the acting I-G’s experience, operational competence, and leadership capacity, stressing that his track record in the Nigeria Police Force positions him to provide focused, results-oriented leadership.

The traditional ruler called for a security strategy anchored on intelligence-driven policing, improved welfare for officers, community engagement, and strengthened collaboration with other security agencies.

He emphasised that restoring public confidence in the police is critical to achieving lasting peace and stability.

Ogunwusi also urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to support the acting I-G, consolidate ongoing reforms, and help reposition the force as a professional, accountable, and people-oriented institution.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership and reaffirmed the palace’s commitment to support all lawful and constitutional efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

The Ooni further appreciated the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his years of service and prayed for his continued success in future endeavours.

Finally, Ogunwusi wished Acting I-G Disu wisdom, courage, and divine guidance as he assumes office at a critical moment in Nigeria’s security landscape.
