“Unbefitting of a ruling party” – ADC blasts APC spokesman over insult-laden statement

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised Barr. Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over what he described as a string of insults contained in a recent press statement.

In a post on his verified X handle, Abdullahi listed the words “Insufferable jesters,” “Utterly delusional,” “Reckless,” “Flippant,” “Confused bunch,” and “Political wanderers,” which he said were used in one statement issued by Morka.

Abdullahi said such language was unbecoming of a ruling party, noting that he had previously advised APC spokespersons against inflammatory communication.

“Unfortunately, this is the kind of language that I spent two years teaching spokespersons of the APC to avoid because it is unbefitting of a ruling party, or any public communication in a democratic society. But then, this says a lot,” he wrote.

He said Nigerians can distinguish between measured communication and political overreaction.

“When a party in government resorts this quickly to insults over a straightforward call for accountability, reasonable citizens are entitled to ask what exactly is provoking such visible irritation,” he added.

Abdullahi said the ADC would not be distracted by what he termed name-calling and narrative smokescreens.

“Our position remains simple and consistent: violence in our political space must be investigated transparently, professionally, and without premature absolution. If the APC is as confident as it claims, it should welcome the same sunlight and due process it now so loudly invokes,” he said.

He further accused the APC of adopting tactics “straight from the dictatorship playbook”.

“The APC tactic is straight from the dictatorship playbook: attack the opposition, then blame them for attacking themselves. But no one is falling for it. Maybe they should start by talking to their Edo State Governor,” he concluded.
