‘Why Not APC?’ – Obi Cubana’s Brother Declares 2027 Ambition Under Opposition Party

The younger brother of popular nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana has formally entered the political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ikenna Iyiegbu, also known as Ike Cubana, has announced his intention to contest in the 2027 general elections.
He is seeking a seat in the House of Representatives to represent Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra state.
His declaration was made public through a post shared on his social media page on Wednesday. The post was accompanied by a campaign-style flyer bearing his photograph and political message.
In his caption, he wrote, “Service to the great people of ldemili North & South federal constituency,” signalling the start of his political journey.
Ikenna will be contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a party with strong roots in Anambra politics.
The move has drawn attention because of the political leaning of his elder brother, who has been associated with pro-government political activities.
His announcement quickly stirred reactions online. Many Nigerians questioned why he chose APGA instead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The phrase ‘Why Not APC?’ dominated comment sections, with users expressing surprise over the choice of party.
Some supporters, however, welcomed his decision and described it as a sign of independence and loyalty to his state’s dominant political structure. Others cautioned him against using APGA as a stepping stone to later defect to another party.
The development has again brought Obi Cubana into public political debate, especially over his links with the City Boy Movement, a group known for backing President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that in January, Politics Nigeria reported that Obi Cubana was named the South-East coordinator of the pro-Tinubu group. The appointment sparked heavy criticism from social media users and political observers who felt it contradicted regional political sentiments.
With his brother now stepping directly into partisan politics, attention is shifting to how the Cubana family will do different political affiliation ahead of 2027.
