APC Reveals Why Opposition Leaders Are Angry Over 2026 Amended Electoral Act

The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has explained why opposition leaders are unhappy over the recently amended Electoral Act.

Speaking during an interview, Morka said the opposition’s anger stems from the amendment disrupting what he described as a strategy to use real-time transmission of election results as a basis to challenge the 2027 general elections.

According to him, key opposition figures are displeased because the amendment removed what he called a “game plan” to nullify elections in situations where real-time electronic transmission of results is not feasible.

“So, let me tell you very quickly why Peter Obi, Buba Galadima and others in the opposition are livid about this amendment.

“They were hoping to convince the National Assembly and Nigerians that unless results are transmitted in real time, it should be grounds to invalidate the 2027 election. That was the plan,” he said.

Morka further argued that opposition leaders were aware that internet connectivity is still inconsistent across many parts of the country.

“Galadima knows, Atiku Abubakar knows, Obi knows, and David Mark knows that connectivity is not universal across all regions and polling units in Nigeria,” he stated.

His remarks followed the signing of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2026 into law on Thursday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, leaders of the African Democratic Congress and the New Nigeria Peoples Party rejected the new law, describing it as anti-democratic and biased in favour of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
