BREAKING: Osun Speaker, 24 Lawmakers Defect from PDP to Accord Party

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and 24 other lawmakers have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party.
The defection happened on Friday after a closed-door meeting held inside the Assembly complex in Osogbo.
The Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, led the move alongside the majority of legislators in the House.
Sources said the decision followed days of consultations and internal discussions among the lawmakers.
According to information gathered, the lawmakers resolved to align politically with Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had earlier left the PDP for the Accord Party ahead of his 2026 re-election plans.
A lawmaker who spoke under condition of anonymity revealed that talks about leaving the PDP began shortly after the governor changed party in November.
However, the source explained that the final decision was reached this week following recent developments surrounding adjustments to the national election timetable and internal party disagreements.
“The feeling was that it is better to move together and stay politically united with the governor,” the source said.
The lawmaker added that remaining in the PDP could weaken their chances in future elections.
The Speaker’s spokesperson, Mr. Olamide Tiamiyu, later confirmed the development.
He stated that 25 out of the 26 members of the House have now joined the Accord Party.
He added that official documentation and further details would be made public in the coming days.
Security was reportedly tightened around the Assembly complex as news of the defection spread, though activities remained calm and orderly.
