PDP reacts to Gov Ahmadu Fintiri’s defection to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the defection of the Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party in a statement issued hours after the governor’s official defection to the ruling party said its leadership has been aware of the “long-speculated defection” of the governor from the PDP.

Signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party, in the statement said, despite several rebuttals by the governor himself, what appeared to have been a rumour for long has finally become a reality, shortly after Fintiri’s presidential visit.

Ememobong noted that while the party acknowledges Fintiri’s move as one within his legal rights, this singular action by the governor is clearly against every known political principle and morality.

He also described Fintiri’s defection to the APC as a challenge to multi-party democracy and democratic consolidation.

According to Ememobong, for a person to abandon a platform that provided political coverage for him, across many election cycles at the sight of slight discomfort, is unambiguously an exhibition of unrestrained cowardice, and not a mark of a principled politician.

He, however stated that while the party wholeheartedly bids the Adamawa State governor farewell, it is important to remind him that history and posterity remain the ultimate and unbiased judges of human conduct.

He further urged members of the PDP in Adamawa State to hold forth and accept the reality before them with grace.

”They should remain resolute in the hope that the rebirth movement of our party is on course and will certainly reposition our party back to winning ways,” Ememobong added.
