Borno killings: Army Chief vows to eliminate terrorists

Following the killing of several soldiers, and civilians in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has promised to crush terrorists’ operations.
Shuaibu gave the assurance while meeting with the Theatre Commander of the operation, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior military officers at the 7 Division Headquarters, Maimalari Cantonment, in Maiduguri.
He also reassured troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI of the Nigerian Army’s committment to stepping up operations to crush the terrorists.
According to the Army Chief, Field officers have provided details of updates, assessment and operations within the region.
In addition, Shaibu said operational requirements needed to boost the fight against the terrorists are also in place.
“I am here on a routine operational visit. The meeting has given me the opportunity to hear directly from troops on the frontline about their challenges and requirements so that they can be addressed promptly,” Shaibu said.
He added that the Army will continue to intensify its efforts towards defeating the terrorist groups operating in the North West Region and other parts of the country.
The Army Chiefs’ visit to Maiduguri follows the killing of soldiers and other residents of Ngoshe by some suspected terrorists on Wednesday.
Local sources within the community said the terrorists during the attack abducted over 100 people, mostly women and children.
Houses and other valuable property were also destroyed and the terrorists razed some during the incident.
Reports indicate that both civilians and soldiers were killed during the attacks, while more than 300 residents, mostly women and children, were abducted in Ngoshe, a community located in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.
