The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi has been honoured with the official key to the City of Banjul.
Obi was given this honour on Tuesday, March 10, during his visit to Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia.
In a photo post shared by one of his supporters and a key member of the Obidient Movement, Serah Ibrahim, the former Anambra State governor was captured receiving the city’s key.
Ibrahim wrote on X, “Historic moment in Banjul as Peter Obi is honoured with the Official Key to the City of Banjul and conferred with a prestigious chieftaincy title, a rare and symbolic recognition reserved for distinguished global figures whose influence transcends the borders of Africa.

“By presenting the Key to the City, the authorities of Banjul formally welcomed Peter Obi as a friend of the city and an ambassador of shared African values, acknowledging his consistent advocacy for good governance, economic development, and the empowerment of people across the continent,” Ibrahim said.

Recall that Obi was received by a mammoth crowd upon his arrival at the Banjul International Airport on March 9, 2026.
A video captured during his arrival showed the former presidential candidate cheering and taking pictures with his fans at the airport.
Obi is currently in The Gambia as the guest of honour at the Refela Africa national conference slated to hold between March 10 and 11, 2026.
