Tinubu Running Nigeria Like a Doctor Who Wants the Patient Dead – SDP Chieftain

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has delivered a harsh assessment of the administration of Bola Tinubu, describing the current government as a major disappointment to Nigerians.

Adebayo said the country needs a fresh political direction, insisting that the policies and approach of the present administration have failed to improve the lives of citizens.

Speaking during an interview where he addressed national politics and preparations for the next general election, the SDP chieftain said he is confident the opposition can offer better leadership if Nigerians decide to change the government in 2027.

According to him, the real issue is not whether opposition parties are prepared, but whether citizens are ready to demand accountability from those in power.

“If you ask me whether I am ready to take over from President Bola Tinubu and govern the country better, I would say yes, I am ready, even today,” Adebayo stated, adding that he believes he has the competence and vision required to steer the country in a different direction.

The former presidential candidate also criticised the role of government institutions, saying the responsibility of holding the executive accountable should primarily fall on the legislature and the judiciary.

He said Nigerians must actively demand transparency and good governance from elected leaders rather than leaving the burden solely on opposition parties.

Adebayo also weighed in on concerns raised by the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) over the current electoral framework. The council had threatened to boycott future elections if amendments are not made to the existing electoral laws.

The SDP leader said while electoral reforms are necessary, political parties must continue organising and preparing for elections regardless of the challenges.

He noted that boycotting elections remains a drastic political move but argued that parties also have the right to protest if the rules governing elections are perceived to be unfair.

“The right decision is to have a good Electoral Act that encourages people to vote and strengthens democracy,” he said.

Adebayo accused the current administration of pushing policies aimed at maintaining control over the electoral process rather than expanding democratic participation.

The SDP chieftain also rejected calls for a broad opposition coalition involving some prominent political figures who have recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He argued that replacing one group of politicians with another set of leaders who previously held power would not solve Nigeria’s problems.

According to him, Nigeria’s political crisis requires a complete break from what he described as a cycle of recycled leadership.

Adebayo maintained that his party would rather focus on mobilising ordinary citizens across the country rather than forming alliances with politicians he believes share similar governance records with the current administration.

Delivering his strongest criticism of the president, the SDP leader compared the administration’s handling of the country to a reckless medical procedure.

“Tinubu is just like a doctor who took over a sick patient, with the aim of the doctor for the patient to die so that he can inherit the property,” he said.

He argued that the policies of the current government have worsened economic hardship and weakened public confidence in governance.

Despite his criticism, Adebayo said the 2027 election presents an opportunity for Nigerians to reshape the country’s political direction if voters participate actively.

He added that large voter turnout would be crucial in ensuring credible elections and strengthening democratic institutions.
