Former Sokoto gubernatorial candidate Saidu Umar dumps PDP

The 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saidu Umar has dumped the party.

Umar announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated March 10, and addressed to the chairman of his ward, Sarkin Adar Kofar Atiku Ward, in Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Also copied in the letter were the Chairman of PDP, Sokoto South LGA and the party’s Chairman for Sokoto State.

According to Umar, his resignation from the PDP is with immediate effect as his decision follows careful reflection on the lingering legal challenges and the existence of parallel leadership within the party at the national level.

He also stated that the crisis within the PDP “has unfortunately remained unresolved and continues to hinder unity, stability, and effective political engagement within the party structure.”

He said, “I remain sincerely grateful to the party for the confidence reposed in me through the opportunity to contest as its Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2023 General Elections in Sokoto State.”

Further appreciating the party’s efforts and support through his political journey, Umar said he remains committed to the pursuit of good governance and democratic values that would deliver growth and development to the people.

“I deeply appreciate the support of the leadership, members, and supporters who stood with us throughout the journey.

“While I step aside from the formal membership of the party, I remain committed to the pursuit of good governance, democratic values, and the continued development of our dear state and nation,” Umar added.
