JUST IN: Senator Aminu Tambuwal officially joins ADC [PHOTOS]

The lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal has officially decamped to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC on his social media account on Wednesday, March 12, 2026.

In a photo post made on X, the former Sokoto governor said he has also informed his ward chairman of his resignation from the PDP “in writing”.
His words, “Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing.”

Describing his former party as a significant part of his political journey, Tambuwal appreciated the PDP for the opportunity to use the platform to serve his people and promote his political career.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State during my second term in office,” Tambuwal said.

He, however, stated that his decision to leave the PDP followed the persistent leadership crisis and divisions rocking the party.
He further explained that the long-standing crisis in the PDP has, over time, weakened unity among party members and leaders, disrupting the once-defined party.
“However, the persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership in the party. These developments have unfortunately weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and have necessitated this decision.
“Consequently, I have today officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with my associates and supporters.
“I am convinced that this decision is guided by my belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
“I remain fully committed to the service of our country and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity,” the former governor added.
