APC Federal Lawmaker Jimbo Breaks Silence on Alleged Plan to Join ADC

A member of the House of Representatives, Clement Jimbo, has dismissed claims suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The lawmaker described the allegation as false and politically motivated.

Jimbo, who represents Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, reacted after a social media post alleged that he had concluded plans to defect to the ADC.

The claim had circulated online and generated reactions within political circles in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday through his media office, the federal lawmaker rejected the report and urged the public to disregard it. His media team described the claim as an attempt to mislead members of the public and damage his reputation.

According to the statement, the allegation was “malicious and libelous” and did not reflect the political position of the lawmaker.

The media office also stressed that Jimbo remains fully committed to the ruling party. It noted that the lawmaker has continued to play active roles in party affairs in Akwa Ibom State.

To further counter the defection claim, the statement pointed to his recent participation in APC activities. It recalled that on March 3, 2026, Jimbo led delegates from Abak Local Government Area to the party’s State Congress held at the Uyo Township Stadium.

“Mr Jimbo remains a committed and loyal member of the APC. Only recently, on 3 March 2026, he led APC delegates from Abak Local Government Area to participate actively in the State Congress of the Party held at the Uyo Township Stadium. Does this look like the action of a man plotting to abandon his party?”

The statement also challenged those behind the allegation to provide proof of any meeting or discussion between the lawmaker and officials of the ADC.

“Mr Jimbo has never held any meeting with officials of the ADC nor has he initiated or entertained any discussion whatsoever regarding defection. The purveyors of this falsehood should be bold enough to present evidence of such a meeting if it ever occurred.”

Jimbo’s media office further explained that the lawmaker is currently focused on strengthening the APC structure in preparation for upcoming party activities.

It said he has been engaging with party delegates and stakeholders ahead of the APC Zonal Congress scheduled for March 25, as well as the National Convention expected to hold on March 27 and 28 in Abuja.

The statement argued that it would make little sense for the lawmaker to abandon the party at a time when preparations for major internal activities are ongoing.

According to the media office, Jimbo has invested significant political effort in building the APC structure in Akwa Ibom State, especially during periods when the party operated as an opposition force in the state.

“A man who invested so much energy, time, and political capital in the party cannot logically be expected to abandon it at a time when it is consolidating its gains.”

The statement also accused the author of the social media post of attempting to discredit the lawmaker ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It urged members of the public and party supporters to ignore the report, describing the allegation as “a fabricated tissue of lies, a blackmail from the darkest part of hell.”

The lawmaker’s team maintained that Jimbo remains focused on his legislative duties and party responsibilities, adding that he has no intention of leaving the APC.
