‘We Never Saw Anything’ — ADC Chairman Accuses Sen Ireti of Receiving ₦100m Before FCT Polls

Tension is building within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory following fresh allegations against the senator representing the territory, Ireti Kingibe.

The Chairman of the party in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Omale Sule, has accused the lawmaker of receiving a large sum of money from the national leadership of the party ahead of the last area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Sule made the claim on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja. He said members of the party structure in AMAC were not aware of the alleged funds and did not benefit from it.

According to him, “We heard that N100 million was given to Senator Ireti Kingibe from ADC National just before the FCT local government election, but we never saw anything from her.”

The AMAC chairman expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of communication between the senator and the party structure in the territory. He said party leaders at the grassroots have struggled to work with her since she assumed office.

He further complained that the senator rarely attends meetings organised by party leaders in the FCT. According to him, this has created a disconnect between the elected lawmaker and the officials who run the party at the local level.

Sule said, “The worst of all is that she never works with the party structure. You can create your own structure outside the party’s own. Everybody, even the president of this country today has a Ward where he comes from and whenever they call for a meeting and he’s not able to attend, somehow he would send a message across.”

He continued by pointing out that the situation in the FCT was different. He insisted that the party’s only senator in the territory has not maintained close contact with its leaders.

“But in our own case here, the only Senator we have that is our leader here in FCT is not attending meeting. She doesn’t even liase with the state chairmen,” he added.

The allegation is coming amid an ongoing legal dispute involving the party and the senator. The FCT chapter of the ADC had earlier approached the Federal High Court seeking an order to stop Kingibe from presenting herself as a member of the party, Politics Nigeria reported.

Senator Kingibe, who currently represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, has yet to publicly respond to the allegation made by the AMAC chairman.
