Diaspora group writes Mexico over Reno Omokri’s appointment

Some Nigerians in the diaspora have written to the Mexican President contesting the appointment and posting of Reno Omokri as an Ambassador to Mexico.

The Nigerians under the group, Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN), urged President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico to reject Omokri’s appointment as an ambassador to the nation.

In a letter signed by Frederick Odorige, the global coordinator of the organisation, these Nigerians said the ambassadorial appointee is a misfit and must be rejected by your country.

“The controversial character, who is usually clever in a dishonest way, has been posted by the government of Nigeria to satisfy the desperate interests of some persons for insidious reasons,” Odorige said.

The group also accused the Nigerian Government of bypassing due legislative scrutiny on Omokri appointment.

It also alleged that Omokri was not screened by Nigeria’s National Assembly as legally expected but was hurriedly processed and asked to take a bow and go.

He also explained to the Mexican government that Omokri’s screening by the legislature has raised debates and controversies among Nigerians.

Stating that a new administration is likely to recall him, the group alleged that Omokri has been temporarily planted in Mexico by President Bola Tinubu, whose tenure is expected to expire in early 2027.

“Given that Omokri is from the same ethnic lineage as Oluremi, the wife of President Tinubu, he was hired and bought over from the opposition party to act in favour of the government he disparaged.

“That was when he quickly stopped his campaign for the release of the abducted Christian girl, Leah Sharibu,” the group
