JUST IN: Northern senators react to deadly Maiduguri blasts

The Northern Senators Forum has expressed shock over the bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The explosions occurred on Monday evening after Iftar and claimed 23 lives and left several others injured.

In a statement issued on Monday by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua the forum extended condolences to the government and people of Borno state.

Part of the statement read: “We, the Northern Senators Forum, are shocked and saddened by the devastating bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening after Iftar, claiming precious lives and injuring many. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno State.

“The Senators are with you in these trying moments, standing in solidarity with the families of the victims and the people of Maiduguri.

“We assure you that everything will be done by the Federal Government to ensure that the people regain confidence in the City.

“We also call on all Nigerians to remain calm and support the efforts of the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
