Senator Ndume Speaks on Maiduguri Bomb Attack, Urges Vigilance Ahead of Eid

The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has condemned the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, describing the attacks as barbaric and a direct assault on innocent civilians.

The explosions, which occurred around the Monday Market area and near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), reportedly claimed multiple lives and left many others injured.

Reports indicated that the blasts occurred at about 7:02 p.m. on Monday, prompting emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, to be deployed to the scene.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ndume described the incident as “barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on innocent citizens,” noting that the attacks targeted densely populated areas.

Ndume, who is currently performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the Babagana Umara Zulum, families of the victims, and those receiving treatment at UMTH.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain and burden on our Governor at this moment. This is a deeply heartbreaking situation for him and for all of us. May Allah grant us comfort, strength, and healing,” he said.

He commended the swift response of security agencies and called for intensified measures to prevent further attacks. The senator also urged residents across the state to remain vigilant, particularly as Eid celebrations approach.

I urge all residents, not only in Maiduguri but across Borno State, particularly in Borno South, to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We must not let our guard down at this critical time,” Ndume added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army warned of the possible deployment of multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram elements.

The military stated that the attacks targeted crowded public locations, including the Post Office area, Monday Market, and the UMTH entrance, in an attempt to inflict mass casualties and spread panic.

According to the army, at least 23 people were killed, while over 100 others sustained injuries in the coordinated assaults.

Ndume concluded by praying for the repose of the deceased, a speedy recovery for the injured, and lasting peace for Borno State and Nigeria.
