JUST IN: US Embassy in Nigeria to Close for Eid-el-Fitr Holiday

The United States Embassy in Abuja and its Consulate in Lagos will be closed for the Eid-el-Fitr holiday.

The announcement was made on the mission’s official X handle on Wednesday. Both offices will remain shut on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, in observance of the celebrations.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, in observance of the Eid-el-Fitr holiday.

Happy Eid-el-Fitr to all our friends and families in Nigeria and around the world who celebrate!” the statement read.

Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
