Governor Soludo Sacks All Appointees Hours After Second-Term Swearing-In

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has ordered all political appointees to step aside, just hours after he was sworn in for a second term.

The directive affects members of his cabinet and other government appointees across ministries and agencies.

The decision was communicated through an official circular released on Wednesday by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The document was endorsed by the Permanent Secretary in the SSG’s office, Dr Nwabufor Nwankwo.

According to the circular, all affected officials have been asked to hand over their responsibilities immediately. The process is to be completed before the close of work on the same day.

They are to transfer duties to Permanent Secretaries in their ministries. Where no Permanent Secretary is available, the most senior civil servant is to take over in acting capacity.

“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today, until a new cabinet is constituted,” the circular read.

The move signals the governor’s plan to reconstitute his cabinet as he begins a fresh term in office. It is a common practice among state executives seeking to reshape their administration and introduce new members into government.

In addition, all members of the outgoing cabinet have been scheduled to meet with the governor. The meeting is expected to hold on March 23 at 10 a.m. at the Anambra State Executive Council Chambers.
