2027: APC Chieftain Claims Tinubu Wants to Relocate Nigeria’s Capital to Lagos After Election

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to relocate Nigeria’s capital from Abuja to Lagos if re-elected in 2027.
The claim, which surfaced on Monday as sighted by POLITICS NIGERIA, has stirred fresh political debate over the direction of the current administration.
Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, made the allegation in a statement where he criticised what he described as a “Lagos-centric agenda” under Tinubu’s leadership.
He argued that several actions of the present government appear to favour Lagos State above other parts of the country.
According to him, the development points to a broader plan to concentrate both political and economic power in Lagos. “It is now clear that the President’s long-term plan is to concentrate political and economic power in Lagos if given another term in office,” Frank said.
He further alleged that key government decisions, including federal appointments and development policies, have not been evenly distributed across the country. He warned that such an approach could weaken national unity and deepen existing divisions.
“We do not want a president who is one-sided,” he said.
Frank questioned the absence of major federal initiatives across critical sectors in other regions. “Where are Tinubu’s MOUs tied to agricultural and livestock production in the North, industrial development in the Southeast, and oil and gas development in the South-South? None!” he stated.
He also accused the administration of worsening regional and ethnic tensions across the country. According to him, the level of division being experienced is unprecedented.
“Secondly, no president in Nigeria’s history has divided the country and its people along regional and ethnic lines the way this administration has done.
“There is a growing sense of alienation and division among Nigerians that is deeply troubling.
“It appears to be a deliberate strategy to impoverish certain regions, especially the North, South, and Southeast, so that citizens are economically weakened ahead of the 2027 election cycle,” Frank stated.
However, the presidency has not issued any official response to the allegation as of the time of filing this report. There is also no formal policy or proposal from the federal government indicating any plan to move the nation’s capital from Abuja.
