Kwankwaso to Officially Join ADC Ahead of 2027 Election — Date Revealed

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is set to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party insiders disclosed on Tuesday that Kwankwaso may officially obtain his membership card on Wednesday, according to information made available to POLITICS NIGERIA.

The registration is expected to take place in his hometown, Kwankwaso, in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State. The move is seen as a major step in his next political chapter.

Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has in recent weeks intensified consultations with key political actors.

His residence in Kano has become a meeting point for major opposition figures, further raising speculation about his planned defection.

Among those who have visited him is the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria, Peter Obi. The meeting sparked conversations about possible collaborations ahead of the next election cycle.

Also, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, recently held talks with Kwankwaso. The visit comes at a time when Makinde is playing a leading role in a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Kabiru Turaki, SAN.

The PDP, however, remains divided. The Turaki-led faction is still locked in a prolonged leadership dispute with another group aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Both sides continue to claim control of the party structure, while efforts to resolve the crisis have not produced any clear outcome.

Meanwhile, the ADC is also making internal moves to strengthen its structure. On Tuesday, the party received the report of its constitution review committee.

The document was presented to the National Legal Adviser, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, on behalf of the National Chairman, Senator David Mark.

In a message delivered on his behalf, Mark stressed the need for the party’s constitution to reflect current political realities.

He said the review must align with the expectations of members and address the demand for stronger internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.

“I am particularly encouraged that this review process involved wide consultations across the states, zones, and critical stakeholders of our party.

“This inclusive approach reinforces our belief that the ADC belongs to all its members, irrespective of status or position.

“As we receive this report today, let me assure you that the National Working Committee will carefully study its recommendations with utmost seriousness,” Mark said.

The anticipated entry of Kwankwaso into the ADC is expected to boost the party’s profile as it positions itself for the 2027 elections.
