2027: Northern APC group hails Matawalle, Gov Lawal’s reconciliation

A group, the Northern APC Peace Agenda has commended the reconciliation between the governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal and his predecessor, Bello Matawalle.
The group described the reconciliation between the duo as a stabilising development for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, by its President, Rabiu Ahmad, the peace group commended Matawalle’s resolve to support Lawal’s re-election ambition.
Ahmad said Matawalle has shown political maturity and committment to unity within the APC and Zamfara state as a whole.
Recall that shortly after Lawal joined the APC, Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence announced that he had shelved all plans to contest in the 2027 gubernatorial election in Zamfara State.
In what appeared as a surprise to many, the minister also declared his full support for his successor.
Reacting to this, Ahmad said, “The coming together of Governor Dauda Lawal and former Governor Bello Matawalle under one political platform represents a turning point for Zamfara State.
“This is not just a political alignment; it is a demonstration of maturity, restraint, and a shared commitment to the stability and progress of the state. At a time when political divisions often undermine governance, this reconciliation sends a powerful message that unity can be prioritised over personal ambition,” Ahmad said.
He further assured that the reconciliation will foster great political alignments and reset the political trajectory of Zamfara State.
