JUST IN: Kano Governor Sacks Investment Commissioner

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has removed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, from office with immediate effect.

Politics Nigeria reports that the development was announced on Thursday in an official statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

The statement confirmed that the former commissioner has been directed to step aside and hand over all responsibilities.

Sagagi is to transfer the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce. This arrangement will remain in place until the government gives further instructions on a substantive replacement.

Despite the sudden move, the governor acknowledged the former commissioner’s role in the administration.

He noted that Sagagi made notable contributions during his time in office, especially in areas that touched on politics, religious engagement, and support for small and medium-scale businesses.

“Governor Yusuf acknowledges Sagagi’s contributions, particularly in the areas of politics, religion and support for small and medium enterprises,” the statement read.

The governor also wished him well in his future pursuits. He stressed that his administration remains focused on improving governance and ensuring that public service delivers real results to the people of Kano State.

According to the statement, the decision is part of a broader effort to restructure key government institutions. The aim is to strengthen performance, drive economic growth, and ensure long-term development across the state.

The removal comes shortly after another major shake-up in the state’s civil service. The governor had earlier relieved the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his duties.

In his place, the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, was asked to take over in an acting capacity.
