Protesters Storm ADC Secretariat Over Alleged ₦100m FCT Election Disbursement

Some protesters on Thursday gathered at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, demanding clarification over allegations that the party disbursed ₦100 million in connection with the recent Federal Capital Territory election.
The protesters, members of the Advocate for Women in Governance, said their demonstration was aimed at seeking transparency from the party’s leadership following claims made on national television about three weeks ago.
Addressing journalists, the group’s convener, Amaka Christian, said the protest was not an accusation but a call for accountability.
“We are here this afternoon for a simple mission: to ask the national leadership of ADC if it’s true they disbursed ₦100 million to cover costs for the just-concluded election in FCT,” she said.
Christian stressed that the group only wanted clarity on the allegation.
“We just want the truth; if it’s true, we’d like to know. The allegation has been made publicly, and it is important for the ADC to either confirm or deny it,” she added.
She noted that the group would decide its next course of action after receiving a response from the party.
“We’re waiting for their response to determine our next steps,” she said.
Responding, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Queen Okiyi, called for calm, describing the allegation as a rumour that would be addressed by the party.
She also defended the party’s commitment to inclusivity and urged members to avoid divisive rhetoric.
“The party has the interests of women at heart. We urge everyone to remain calm while we provide the necessary clarification and stay focused on building a united front ahead of 2027,” she said.
