2027: “PDP’ll field a candidate against Gov Otti” – Ikpeazu

A former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured that, despite its challenges, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will field a governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Ikpeazu who spoke on the sidelines of the PDP National Convention which took place in Abuja on Sunday said the party is determined to put its house in order ahead of the polls.

According to Ikpeazu, the party will ensure that a strong candidate emerges to oust the sitting governor, Alex Otti, at the 2027 polls.

However, declining to comment on the performance of the current administration in the state, Ikpeazu said as a former governor, he will refrain from speaking publicly about his successor.

His words, “I speak like a former governor; we don’t talk about our successors. We talk about them only when they finish.

“I’m not concerned about that as of now. I am thinking about how to organise my party and run elections. If my party is strong enough to contest elections, they will field a candidate because he is not from my party.

“If my party is strong enough by 2027, we will field a candidate against him,” the ambassador said.

He further assured that reconciliation efforts are being made by leaders within the party to ensure that PDP emerges strong ahead of the forthcoming polls.

The former governor also used the opportunity to appeal to aggrieved members of the party and leaders who have chosen to stay away to return to the party.

He said the party’s doors remain open to all members as they prepare for the elections.
