2027: Wike Dismisses Rumours of Private Endorsements for Rivers Political Contests

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he has not endorsed any individual for upcoming political contests in Rivers State, emphasising that such decisions rest solely with party elders.

Speaking to a joint meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders from Rivers State at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night, Wike urged caution against rushing endorsements and warned that personal ambitions could create divisions within the group.

The minister highlighted that the group’s current political influence is rooted in unity and commitment, not financial power. He also cautioned that external actors are attempting to sow discord among the stakeholders because of their successful collaboration.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” Wike said.

He expressed disappointment in individuals who, after benefiting from appointments secured through the group, have turned to criticise its leadership. Wike described such actions as a failure of character and warned that attempts to undermine others through deceit would not succeed.

“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment [who] goes back to castigate,” he said, adding that many who once sought his mentorship can no longer meet him eye to eye.

Addressing speculation about endorsements for local offices, Wike dismissed rumours of private endorsements, insisting that his public and private positions remain consistent. He reiterated that the only official endorsement currently recognised by the group is for the presidency.

“I have not endorsed anyone for the PDP or APC at the state level, and I will not do so until the elders meet. The only person the group has officially endorsed is President Bola Tinubu,” Wike said.

The minister stressed his commitment to transparency, declaring, “Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime.”

He praised council chairmen, Rivers elders, and the leadership of both parties for coordinating the gathering, noting that the absence of complaints about member inclusion reflected the success of the meeting.
