JUST IN: El-Rufai returns to court days after mother’s burial

Barely two days after Hajiya Umma El-Rufai was laid to rest, her son, Nasir El-Rufai is back at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State was sighted at the court for hearing on his bail application in relation to the charges levelled against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

Recall that the commission had arraigned the former governor on a 10-count charge of alleged mismanagement of funds and conversion of public property and money laundering.

The former governor’s bail application is slated for hearing before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on Tuesday, March 31.

El-Rufai’s appearance in court following his one-month detention by the commission.

Having been earlier arraigned, the court set March 31, 2026, for hearing on all lending applications, including a bail request by the former governor.

However, the former governor was released by the ICPC – on compassionate grounds – on  Friday, March 27, following the passing of his mother who died after a brief illness in Cairo, Egypt.

Hajiya Umma was laid to rest in Abuja on Sunday, March 29, with several dignitaries and politicians in attendance.
