Court to Rule on Suit Seeking to Bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from ADC Activities

The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver a ruling today in a suit seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in all activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following her alleged suspension.
Justice Peter Odo Lifu is expected to rule on the matter after hearing an ex-parte application filed against the senator.
Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Senate, was reportedly suspended on March 10 by her Wuse Ward Executive. The suspension was said to have been ratified by a two-thirds majority of ward leaders over allegations of anti-party activities and disregard for the ADC constitution.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was filed by Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of themselves and other ward members, with Kingibe listed as the sole defendant.
Through their counsel, Kolawole Olowookere (SAN), the plaintiffs are seeking an interim injunction restraining the senator from presenting herself as a member of the ADC pending the determination of the substantive suit.
They also asked the court to bar her from performing any party-related functions, attending meetings, or representing the ADC in any capacity.
Additionally, the plaintiffs want the court to stop her from interfering with the ward’s administration, including its register and internal activities.
The applicants argued that Kingibe’s suspension followed due process as outlined in the party’s constitution and was duly ratified.
They further alleged that despite being notified of her suspension, she has continued to hold parallel meetings, issue statements as an ADC member, and allegedly use security operatives to intimidate the ward executive.
According to them, her actions amount to a blatant disregard for the party’s internal mechanisms.
Justice Lifu had earlier reserved April 1 for ruling on whether to grant the plaintiffs’ requests.
