ADC factional chairman Nafiu Gombe asks INEC to recognise him as authentic leader

The Nafiu Bala Gombe faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the court order and recognise him as the party’s authentic leader.

Gombe, while reacting to INEC’s recent decision, called on the commission to allow him to lead the affairs of the ADC pending the court’s decision on the substantive case before it.

In a statement issued on Friday, Gombe brought the attention of INEC to the order of the Appeal Court -CA/ABJ/145/2026 – which directed the commision to refrain from taking a step that could render its proceedings worthless.

“We call on INEC to respect the status quo as it stood on September 2, 2025, to adhere strictly to the African Democratic Congress constitution, and to comply fully with the court order by allowing Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe to take over the leadership of the party in line with the party’s constitution.

“We also welcome INEC’s decision not to recognize the faction led by His Excellency Senator David Mark, and we reiterate our unwavering commitment to a better Nigeria and a fully democratic dispensation,” Gombe said.
