JUST IN: Several Boko Haram fighters killed as NAF airstrike hits terrorist camp in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out an airstrike on a terrorist enclave in Kangarwa, located in the northern Tumbuns area of Borno State.

In a statement on Friday, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, spokesman of NAF, said the operation was conducted by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai.

Air Commodore Ejodame said the strike was executed on April 1 at about 12:05 pm following credible intelligence indicating terrorist activities in the area.

He added that intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions confirmed the presence and movement of fighters within the enclave before the strike was carried out.

His words: “The precision strike was carried out based on credible intelligence, further reinforced by earlier intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions which confirmed the massing of terrorists and sustained hostile activity within the enclave.

“Following positive identification and target confirmation, NAF air assets conducted successive aggressive strike passes, delivering accurate fires on the identified locations.

“The bombardment obliterated key structures, destroyed logistics hubs, and neutralised scores of fighters, leaving the enclave severely degraded and its operational utility significantly diminished.”

The NAF spokesman added that the operation disrupted the movement of terrorists and created favourable conditions for ground troops to advance and carry out further clearance operations.

He said the strike dealt a major blow to fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

“The operation is assessed to have eliminated several ISWAP fighters with devastating impact, while the enclave’s command and support structure suffered a major setback,” he said.

The NAF spokesperson said the operation demonstrates growing coordination between air and ground forces in the counter-insurgency campaign.
