Tinubu, Shettima Mourn as Former INEC Chairman Jega Loses Wife

Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, wife of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Attahiru Jega, has passed away.
Her death was announced in a statement shared on the official social media page of BUK on Sunday.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega,” the statement read.
According to the statement, her Janazah prayer was scheduled to take place immediately after Zuhr at the National Mosque Abuja on Sunday.
The Director of Public Affairs at BUK, Lamara Garba, also confirmed the development in a telephone interview, stating that she would be buried in Abuja.
“Yes, it is true that the wife of our former Vice-Chancellor and former INEC chairman, Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, has passed on and will be buried in Abuja. May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings,” he said.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a statement on Sunday, condoled with Prof Jega over the loss of his wife.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who attended the Janazah prayer, also conveyed the President’s condolences to the bereaved family.
President Tinubu described the deceased as a woman of grace and strong character, noting that she was a pillar of support to her husband throughout his public service, including his tenure as INEC chairman.
He also commended her contributions to education and community development.
“Dear Professor Jega, it is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of your beloved wife of over 40 years.
“Hajiya was an exceptional woman. I mourn this painful loss with you and your family and pray that God Almighty grants her Aljannatul Firdaus.
“I stand with you and your family at this difficult time,” the President said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
